We are currently searching for a Marine Biologist to join our growing Jacksonville, Florida team. This individual will support our ongoing Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) and benthic monitoring programs in Florida and the Caribbean. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading field teams and collecting/processing project data.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support fish, SAV and benthic marine projects in nearshore Florida and Caribbean waters.
- Identify and quantify SAV in Florida and Caribbean
- Perform benthic invertebrate species identification and taxonomical archiving.
- Identify coral and hardbottom features.
- Scientific report writing for client deliverables and peer-reviewed publications.

Education & Experience
- Master’s degree in marine biology, ecology, environmental science, or similar field, is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Field experience related to working aboard marine fishing/research vessels and fish and benthic sampling required.
- SCUBA certification required; AAUS Scientific Diver preferred.
- Working knowledge of federal and state regulatory monitoring requirements preferred.
- HYPACK® experience preferred.

- Ability to physical perform multiple duties associated with marine sampling aboard fishing vessels for consecutive 8-10-hour days
- Employee should be able to lift up to 30 pounds.

This position will primarily be field based; however, the successful candidate will be required to perform laboratory analytical services from a home office or local facility.
Language / Communication Skills
The ability to read, interpret, and understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form is required. A mastery of the English language for both interpretation of written and oral instructions from numerous sources and for explanation of findings is expected and required.
Candidate must possess the ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such the fundamentals of geometry, algebra and statistical analysis. In addition, the successful candidate must have the ability to regularly apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Candidate must have the ability to work well in a professional and team-oriented environment, as well as independently. Candidate should possess strong organizational skills, excellent leadership skills, and be client focused. Must possess basic computer skills; the computer skills must include proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel.
